What is emotional intelligence?

An empowerment tool of the XXI century.

The Emotional Intelligence appeared as a scientific concept in 1990 thanks to John Mayer and Peter Salovey, based on research in neuroscience about how emotions work on our brain. Emotional Intelligence is defined as the ability to perceive, communicate, understand and regulate emotions in everyday life. In the last twenty years, research has shown that emotionally intelligent people are able to manage critical emotions like rage and frustration, anxiety or stress more efficiently. It has also shown that people with Emotional Intelligence connect better emotionally with others, have more empathy, are more collaborative and create positive and constructive environments.

Emotions cannot and should not be removed from our work life.
If we suppress our emotions hiding or ignoring them we limit our ability to grow and build. On the other hand, if we are able to understand them and manage them properly they will give us a strategic advantage both personally and professionally, that will make the difference in many ways.
